A letter from TS, SIngapore...
The Theosophical Society, East & South East Asia
Dear fellow members,
White Lotus Day
Today, May 8, is White Lotus Day.
Madame H. P. Blavatsky has always been a tremendous source of inspiration for all students of occultism. Not only was she well-loved and remembered by members of the original Theosophical Society, she also had many friends and followers outside of the T.S. Indeed, many movements were founded outside the T.S. to study her teachings. Even today, more thana century after her death, new movements are still being formed pledging personal allegiance to H.P.B. and faithfully adhering to her original teachings. This is especially true in the cyberworld of the Internet. We could almost say that many people are fiercely loyal to our founder, Madame Blavatsky. Indeed, some parts of the theosophical movement would not study anything but the works of Madame Blavatsky.
We join all these followers and students throughout the world to commemorate the passing of Madame H.P. Blavatsky on May 8, 1891. This is the 124th anniversary of the death of one of the greatest occultists in recent history. We call this day White Lotus Day to remember with gratitude the founder of the Theosophical Society. White Lotus Day was declared by the co-founder and President Col. H. S. Olcott in 1892 as a Day of Remembrance to “express the feeling of loving regard for her who brought us the chart of the climbing Path which leads to the summit of knowledge”.
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, the 19th century Russian mystic, was one of the most remarkable and fascinating women of modern times. Destined for a solitary path, she left her family and homeland to travel the world in search of occult knowledge, a quest which ultimately took her to the great Mahatmas and the Ancient Wisdom of the East. Her odyssey was to bring her enlightenment and enemies, fame and notoriety, devotion and denouncement…but it also resulted in some of the greatest occult classics ever written, and the founding of the world famous Theosophical Society.
History has not been kind to the controversial Helena Petrovna and her passion for spiritual truth. But then history may be too short a time to give us a real perspective on the Immortals. For such the stubborn genius Blavatsky most certainly was…and is.
Let's remember Madame Blavatsky with gratitude on this White Lotus Day. In the few minutes of remembrance, you may wish to ponder over The Golden Stairs as written by her.
A clean life, an open mind, a pure heart, an eager intellect, an unveiled spiritual perception, a brotherliness for one’s co-disciple, a readiness to give and receive advice and instruction, a loyal sense of duty to the Teacher, a willing obedience to the behests of TRUTH, once we have placed our confidence in and believe that Teacher to be in possession of it; a courageous endurance of personal injustice, a brave declaration of principles, a valiant defence of those who are unjustly attacked, and a constant eye to the ideal of human progression and perfection which the Secret Science depicts: these are the golden stairs up the steps of which the learner may climb to the Temple of Divine Wisdom.
Fraternal wishes,
Sanne
